Infrared Security Cameras - Invisible Night Watchmen

by Jeffrey Parker

A lot of break ins happen at night, although statistically, the numbers show most burglaries happening between 6 AM and 6 PM, but infrared security cameras provide you with security in the darkest of nights. Many business owners concerned with after hour break-ins are resorting to and upgrading to infrared security cameras. The intrinsic benefit in a system such as this is its ability to record images in the absolute dead of night, but in addition to that is the device's unobtrusive nature. There is no light needed in or around the device's recording perimeter, allowing it to be easily concealed in the dark. What is better than being able to record burglars without their knowledge? Apprehending them perhaps!

Infrared Security Cameras are equipped with a mechanism surrounding the camera's lens that emits light in the infrared spectrum. This light is undetectable by the naked eye. Additionally, the clarity and quality of the images attained by an infrared camera rival that of any conventional camera. In a low light situation, where there is perhaps a little moonlight or starlight, the picture quality of an infrared security camera mimics that of a conventional camera recording in daylight.

There are a few drawbacks and limitations to most standard models of infrared cameras. The LED emissions of many conventional infrared security cameras only have a range of 50 feet. This means that your viewing scope will be dramatically limited to only 50 feet. As a consideration, depending on your needs as a homeowner or a business owner, you can acquire a model that provides up to 100 feet of LED light emission, thus enabling a viewing scope of 100 feet. You will pay slightly more for this, but depending on your needs the additional expenditure will be worth it. There are some IR security cameras that have a view rendering of up to 300 feet! Big businesses and such employ these more expensive and effective cameras. A typical infrared security camera image is in black and white. The reason for this being that at night, typically there is no source from which the camera can derive true colors from the visible spectrum of light.

You can find infrared security cameras at any department store in America. Places like Rite Aid, Wal-Mart, Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy, just to name a few are among many department stores that carry infrared security cameras. Additionally, home improvement stores like ACE, Home Depot and Osh Hardware & Garden all carry complete infrared security camera systems that come with stand alone monitors equipped with recording devices. Also don't forget to employ the internet in your quest to acquire an infrared security camera. You can make purchases from the comfort of your own home, taking to time to compare prices.
